Don't let weariness or dissengagement make you an easy target.
Deu 25:17 "Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out from Egypt,
Deu 25:18 how he met you along the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God.
Deu 25:19 "Therefore it shall come about when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget.
Inevitably when a journey is at hand and God's people have to pack up and move there are some that lag behind. They are like children getting ready for school after a long weekend, not exactly motivated as they should be. It was the very same way with the children of Israel when they were wandering around in the wilderness headed for the land of promise.
Unfortunately many are not motivated by the promise they are just caught in the now. By that I mean the lack of food and water and substance and the constant journey can create a weariness which can steal our momentum. The enemy loves to use our emotions against us and provoke us to weariness and a defeat mentality.
Our enemy Amalek is always looking for those who are not quite engaged as they should be. He is looking for the laggers. The ones who wait to get on board until there emotions are ready to engage the journey or until they can actually see the land of promise in sight. By then the enemy has picked off many because the time to stay tight is always in the journey.
Being a part of a pioneering company of leaders we have seen many get lost in the pioneering process. Often they set off pretty good allured by the glory of war and of being a part of a pioneering group. There is something stroking about being around movers and shakers even when we are a settler at heart.
I imagine it was hard for the settlers to see much purpose in the wilderness journey that Israel went on but they were required to go as well. Once Israel arrived near the land of promise some even decided to stay on the wrong side of Jordan a place just short of inheritance, a place just short of the promise. They failed to realize that the journey was not just about them but it was for the many who would come after them who would build upon the ground that they had gained.
As we journey toward a better day in Christiandom may we be aware of the ground we are gaining and may our journey allways have the generations that are to come in our sights. Don't be picked off by Amalek. Don't be a lagger. Give your all into the journey and into staying a tight community and you will do well. And remember its our job to eventually take Amalek out to the woodshed for what he has done to our brothers and sisters so don't get caught in his desire to isolate you and break you apart from the rest. Covenant will keep you. Community will protect you. And when we align for war he doesn't have a chance because the King has numbered his days.
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Every generation has to fight its own war with Amalek spirits and our greatest asset is staying in formation and community. Isolation is his goal, he exploits the weak. He looks for the ones who are not where they are suppose to be. Part of being a pioneering people is that we have to be like the ones in Nehemiah's day who knew how to build and to fight. Never put your sword down on the journey, wear it well and be sure that when strategy from the Lord is being given that you are in the the tent listening to His commands.
